Dreame L40s Ultra CE Robot Vacuum & Mop Review

Dreame L40s Ultra CE_1200x1200_1
IS THE DREAME L40S ULTRA CE WORTH IT?

Why Dad Likes It

  • Cheapest cost-of-ownership for filters, dust bags, and brushes
  • Lives inside the Dreame ecosystem if you have other Dreame products
  • Easy to use and set up

What To Know

  • Missing solution tank
  • Cold water mop washing only
Bottom Line icon

BOTTOM LINE: Is the Dreame L40s Ultra CE Just a Dad Approved?

The Dreame L40s CE is NOT Just A Dad Approved. It's a budget robot with one of the cheapest cost-of-ownership profiles in the Dreame ecosystem — filters, dust bags, and brushes are all inexpensive. But it's missing too much. No solution tank, cold water mop washing only, and obstacle avoidance that just barely passes. The Tri-Cut brush upgrade helps with hair, but it doesn't fix the core feature gaps. Only worth considering on a huge sale if you want into the Dreame ecosystem cheaply. At anything near full price, skip it.

HAIR & PET TEST

Hair tangle handling is decent and can be upgraded with the Tri-Cut brush.

💧

MOPPING TEST

Mop performance is limited by the cold water mop washing.

⚠️

OBSTACLE / CLUTTER TEST

Got a pass on obstacle avoidance — it has the function but it's not great.

What's in the Box and First Setup

The Dreame L40s CE ships with the robot, dock, starter dust bag, mop pads, cleaning solution bottle, side brush, and charging cable. Standard for the tier.

Cleaning Performance: What It Actually Picks Up

Hard Floor & Tile Performance

On hardwood and tile, the Dreame L40s CE performed at the level the scorecard reflects. Suction handled daily debris, and the side brush did the work it's supposed to do at this tier.

Carpet and Pet Hair

Acceptable with the option to upgrade to a Tri-Cut brush for better tangle resistance.

Mopping Performance

Cold water mop washing is the limitation — pads stay cleaner with hot water systems.

Obstacle Avoidance

It passes the basic test but doesn't have premium sensor systems.

The Dock and the Real Maintenance Story

Cheapest cost-of-ownership in the testing pool. Auto-empty cadence and any clog behavior worth noting belongs here.

The Dreame App Experience

The Dreame L40s CE app handles the standard set: scheduling, room-by-room cleaning, no-go zones, suction and water level controls, and a live map view. Wi-Fi pairing is 2.4 GHz only (standard for this category).

What I'd Change About the Dreame L40s CE

  • Upgrade the mop washing to use warm water instead of cold.
  • Add a dedicated cleaning solution tank.
  • Close the feature gap with the X-series.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Buyer Questions
What's the best price to buy the Dreame L40s CE at?+

Check current pricing via the Amazon button on this page. My recommendation is to wait for a deep sale off MSRP — at regular pricing, the Dreame L40s CE is missing too many features (solution tank, hot water mop washing) to justify even budget-tier money. On a huge sale, the cheap consumables ecosystem makes it a viable entry point for Dreame loyalists.

Can the Dreame L40s CE be upgraded with a Tri-Cut brush?+

Yes — the Tri-Cut brush is an available upgrade for the main brush roller, and it meaningfully improves hair handling. With the upgrade, Hair Tangle goes from acceptable to genuinely good. If you do buy the Dreame L40s CE, the Tri-Cut brush upgrade is worth it on day one.

Why doesn't the Dreame L40s CE have hot water mop washing?+

Dreame built the L40s CE as a budget-tier robot, and hot water mop washing is a premium-tier feature. The dock only does cold water washing, which means pads don't come out as clean as on the Dreame X60 Ultra or other premium Dreame models. Mop pad freshness degrades faster — you'll be replacing pads more often.

Dreame L40s CE vs Dreame L40 Pro Ultra — which should I buy?+

The Dreame L40 Pro Ultra is the better robot if you have the budget — it has the solution tank, the more capable mop system, and stronger obstacle avoidance. The Dreame L40s CE is the entry-level CE model designed to hit a budget price point. If you can stretch to the Dreame L40 Pro Ultra on sale, that's the smarter Dreame budget pick.
