After three months in a real home, the Dreame D20 Pro Plus settled into one clear identity: a vacuum-only robot that does its main job well. It is simple, it maps reliably, and it keeps floors clean. The one thing to get straight up front is the mop — it is along for the ride, not a reason to buy.

What's in the Box and First Setup

Setup is genuinely easy. The robot pairs through the Dreame app, runs a LiDAR map of the home, and is ready to work with very little fuss. The base station uses a dust bag rather than a bagless bin — a win in my book, because you pull the bag and throw it out with no cloud of dust. The dock also has a ramp the robot drives up, so you can place the base on carpet instead of being forced onto hard floor.

On hard floors the vacuuming is the headline. Suction is strong for this class and it clears everyday debris in a single pass

Carpet and Pet Hair

Carpet cleaning scored well, and the dual floating brush roller is the standout. Long and pet hair that would wrap and choke a single-roller robot get pulled through without tangling. For pet homes, this is the feature that matters.

Mopping Performance

This is the weak spot, and it is not close. The mop is not good — it drags the pad rather than mopping. My recommendation is blunt: don’t install the pad. The robot runs perfectly well as a vacuum without it.

Edge and Corner

The “Pro” in the name signals the extending side brush that reaches into right-angle corners, which improves edge and corner coverage. It also adds ultrasonic carpet sensing — the app can show you where carpet is, and the robot avoids carpet when the mop pad is installed. Note it does not lift the pad; it steers around the carpet rather than raising the pad over it.

Obstacle Avoidance

Obstacle avoidance passed but sits in the middle of the pack. It handles a normal room without trouble; heavily cluttered floors are where it shows its price point. It did make it back to the dock reliably in testing.

The Dock and Maintenance

The auto-empty dock drops debris into a dust bag for long stretches of hands-off use. The one maintenance note: the auto-empty path can clog with hair over time, so it is worth a periodic check. Bagged emptying otherwise keeps the mess down.

The Dreame App Experience

The Dreame app is a proven, no-drama system — mapping, scheduling, no-go zones, and multi-floor support are all there. It will not feel sparse coming from other Dreame robots, and it supports the usual voice assistants.

What I'd Change About the Dreame D20 Pro Plus

• Make the mop actually mop, or drop it from the pitch entirely — right now it only invites disappointment.
• Sharpen the obstacle avoidance so it matches how good the vacuuming is.
