The Dock Is the Whole Story Here

This is the reason you'd buy this over a plain cordless, so let's start there. When you store the vacuum on the dock, the auto-empty kicks on by itself and pulls everything out of the dustbin. It runs for a long time — and it has to. The bin sits at a 90-degree angle when the door opens, so the dirt doesn't just fall out on its own. The suction has to do all the work, and it spins the bin while it does it. For the most part, it gets everything out.

The dock itself is tall and big. It showed up in a huge box, it's all plastic, and it's a little tippy.

Cleaning Performance: What It Actually Picks Up

Carpet

The carpet is where it scored highest for me, an 8. The head is a multi-purpose design meant to handle carpet and hard floors both, and on carpet it does good work. I'll be straight with you though — I'm 50/50 on the conical rollers. They're a different shape than the straight roller most vacuums use, and I'm not fully convinced yet that the shape does a better job on carpet than what it replaced.

Hard Floors

Hard floors landed at 7.5. It cleans hardwood fine and the head is designed with hard floors in mind, but it does struggle a little in spots — that's the honest read, and it's why hardwood scored a half point under carpet.

Long Hair and Pet Hair

The conical bars are built to walk hair off the end of the roller instead of letting it wind up in the middle, and at the head that's what happens — I scored long hair an 8. Where hair does turn up is at the dock, wrapped around the filter screen. You pull it off with your fingers and it's easy, but it does mean the system isn't fully hands-off if you've got a lot of hair in the house.

The Bag

The dock uses a bag, and the bag is on the small side. That's the trade-off nobody mentions in the marketing: this is a consumable, so it's a part you'll be re-buying on a schedule. If you're picking up big messes on a regular basis, plan on going through them faster than you'd guess. If it's mostly everyday dust and crumbs, they'll last.

Docking It

Putting the vacuum onto the dock takes a knack. It's not hard exactly, but you have to lift it up, slide it in, then push it back to seat it. I prefer docks where the vacuum just sits in and you're done. You'll learn the motion inside a week, but it's a small daily annoyance rather than a clean handoff.

The Noise

It's on the noisy side. Between the long run time and the volume, the auto-empty cycle is something you'll notice every single time you put the vacuum away. Not a dealbreaker, but if you clean late at night with kids asleep, that's worth knowing going in.

Battery and Run Time

It's rated at up to 60 minutes and there are three modes to work with — Eco, Medium and MAX. Eco is the mode that gets you the headline number, and that's where you'll spend most of your time for everyday cleaning. Push it to MAX for a stubborn mess and you'll be watching minutes instead of an hour. The battery clicks out, so a spare is an option if you need longer sessions. I scored this an 8.

Maintenance Reality

Worth saying plainly because it catches people out: this does not stand upright on its own. You're going to be mounting it on a wall. Pick your spot before the box is even open — somewhere it can hang and charge at the same time. It's not a dealbreaker, it's just a decision you make on day one whether you planned to or not.

The catch is that it isn't perfect: bigger messes are where it strains, and it won't fully clear the dustbin every single time if you've been picking up a lot. So expect to check the bin now and then rather than assuming it's always empty. The dock also has a compartment to store your tools, but one of the tools didn't want to fit in there right — or if it does fit, I couldn't work out how.

What I'd Change About the Dyson V10 Konical

• Make the dock bagless, or at least give the bag more capacity so it isn't filling up so fast
• Let the vacuum just sit down into the dock instead of the lift-slide-push routine
• Quiet the auto-empty cycle down, or shorten it
• Shrink the dock and give it a steadier base so it isn't tippy
• Fix the tool compartment so every included tool actually fits

Is It Worth It?

For a house with pets and a mix of hard floors and carpet — yes. That's exactly who this is for. It's a great cordless vacuum, it's light, it's easy to use and easy to clean, and having the dock empty it for you every time genuinely takes a chore off your plate. What you're accepting in return is a big dock that needs floor space, a loud emptying cycle, a docking motion you have to learn, and a bag you'll keep buying.
