3 Months of Real Use in My Home

I ran the Ecovacs Deebot N20e Plus in my house for three months, and the honest takeaway is simple: this is a really good option as a vacuum-only robot. It’s bagless, it maps the home well, and it’s one of the least expensive robots to keep running. It’s not perfect — it’s noisy and the mop is a throw-in — but for what it costs to own, I kept reaching for it.

What's in the Box and First Setup

Setup is about as easy as it gets. The app walked me through pairing, the robot ran its first LiDAR map quickly, and I was cleaning the same day. It does come with a mop attachment, but I’ll say up front: I don’t recommend using it. The pad can’t lift, so it just drags across the floor.

Cleaning Performance: What It Actually Picks Up

Hard Floor & Tile Performance

On hard floors it does the job. I wish it had a little more suction power, but it picks up everyday dirt and debris without complaint.

Carpet and Pet Hair

Carpet detection bumps the suction on rugs, and carpet cleaning held up well for a budget robot. The ZeroTangle roller keeps most hair from wrapping, though longer strands still get on it now and then.

Mopping Performance

This is the weak spot. The flat pad only drags water around — there’s no lift, so it can’t get out of its own way on carpet transitions. Run this one vacuum-only and you’ll be happier.

Edge and Corner Cleaning

Edge work is fine for the price. The single side brush sweeps debris toward the path; it won’t deep-clean tight corners, but it doesn’t leave obvious lines along the baseboards.

Obstacle Avoidance

There’s no camera here, so this is LiDAR-based navigation rather than AI object recognition. It passed my clutter test and rarely got stuck — basic, but reliable.

The Dock and Maintenance

The bagless auto-empty station is the headline. There are no dust bags to ever buy, which is a big part of why this robot is so cheap to own. The one thing to know: there’s no HEPA filter in the base — it relies on a foam filter when it auto-empties the dustbin. That said, I never noticed anything getting out of the bin.

The Ecovacs App Experience

The app is a genuine strength. It’s easy to use, the mapping is accurate, and the everyday controls are right where you’d expect them. For a budget robot, the software experience punches above its price.

What I'd Change About the ECOVACS DEEBOT N20e Plus

• Noise level — It's louder than most robots in this price range; quieter operation would make it easier to run during the day.
• Mop or drop it — The flat pad only drags water and can't lift, so either give it a real mop-lift system or remove it altogether.
