3 Months of Real Use - and the Recall Context
This robot was launched in January or February 2026, recalled almost immediately by Eufy for reasons the company never publicly explained, and quietly relaunched in May 2026. They first released it back in January or February, but then they immediately had to recall it. They didn't tell us why — it was kind of a lot of controversy over people being told to send their robots back. My testing window started when I was able to buy the robot fresh after the relaunch. Since the relaunch it's received a steady stream of firmware updates, and a couple of the early concerns have since flipped — noted below.
What's in the Box and First Setup
Setup runs about 20 minutes — the 12-in-1 UniClean station has more configuration steps than a basic dock. The eufy app handles Wi-Fi pairing (2.4 GHz only), and the 3D MatrixEye ToF mapping pass goes quickly but produces less-detailed maps than a spinning-LiDAR robot.
What's in the box: the robot, the 12-in-1 UniClean dock with top control panel, proprietary solution bottle, fragrance starter cartridge, mop roller, side brushes (kit), split brush roller (pre-installed), starter dust bag, and the charging cable.
Cleaning Performance: What It Actually Picks Up
Hard Floor & Tile Performance
On wide-open hardwood, the Eufy Omni S2 delivers. 30,000 Pa AeroTurbo 2.0 suction is strong, and the multi-cyclone airflow design maintains suction consistency. The HydroJet 2.0 roller mops well on tile and sealed hardwood. The catch: vacuum performance is loud, and the airflow design pushes air downward at an angle that can scatter debris before the suction picks it up. The angle is wrong.
Carpet and Pet Hair
The split brush roller is a good design for long-hair management. In my early testing, a hair wrap happened on the brush and the dust bin clogged despite the anti-tangle design — but in extended home use afterward, the dust bin and filter stayed clean and the airflow held up strong. The mop roller has no cover during carpet runs, so it drags on medium-pile carpet, and the robot maps high-tangle carpet spots and then avoids them on normal carpet runs. For long-haired, heavy-shedding pet households, the Roborock Saros 20's DuoDivide rollers are still in a different class.
Mopping Performance
The HydroJet 2.0 roller pushes 15 Newtons of down pressure standard and can ramp up to 50N for stain detect mode. The dock heats wash water to 140°F and dries with hot air at 131°F. The optional auto-refill water system is a genuinely strong feature for large mopping jobs — an installable accessory that fills and empties the tanks automatically.
The Mop Scraping Claim — Worth Its Own Paragraph
Eufy's marketing shows the HydroJet 2.0 roller scraping mud off in real-time and capturing it in the dirty water tank. In my early testing, the dirty water tank stayed surprisingly empty, which raised a marketing-vs-reality flag for me — it looked like the robot was holding dirt in the roller rather than ejecting it. That has since flipped. After extended home use and firmware updates, the dirty water tank now comes out with a lot of dirty water in it — the mop is clearly lifting and ejecting dirt. I haven't run a formal Ad vs Reality cycle for a fully published verdict yet, but the field signal has moved from "concern" to "looks legit."
Edge and Corner Cleaning
In extended home use, I've seen the pattern "float" next to walls — it doesn't ride right up against them, and the edge line isn't smooth — while the middle of the room cleans excellently. This perimeter behavior is the main reason I hold back on calling it a lock even for very large open rooms.
Obstacle Avoidance and the ToF Limitation
The 3D MatrixEye 2.0 ToF sensor is the structural limitation. ToF sensors map by measuring the time light takes to bounce back from surfaces. The technology is improving but is still a step behind traditional spinning LiDAR for mapping corners and navigating tight spaces. Front sensor performance on standard clutter is decent. Tight-space logic is the weak link.
The Build Quality and Parts Availability Concerns
The robot is 4 inches tall — taller than the Roborock Saros 20 (3.13") or Dreame X60 Ultra (3.13"). It doesn't clear low furniture as cleanly, and the top cover has popped off in testing when the robot tried to squeeze under tight clearances. For a flagship-priced robot, build quality holding together is an expectation, not a bonus.
Parts availability is another long-term flag. I'm concerned with Eufy parts — these can be hard to find from the OEM right now. They have a kit that is for sale, but what I've noticed in the past is these kits that contain the brushes and the rollers go in and out of stock pretty frequently, and then it can be hard to find good generic ones, and some of the parts are not even available, like the side brushes are not available by themselves. Dirty water filter handles in the dock are small and have broken during cleaning. The proprietary solution bottle removes the generic-refill discount option.
It's also physically large — big robot, big basestation — so it's a machine I plan space around. When I deep-cleaned the robot for the first time, I found it fiddly, and my blunt takeaway is that the extra cleaning work doesn't outweigh the extra benefit of the good mopping. The auto-empty dock is also loud.
The Top Dock Control Panel — A Real Win
The top dock control panel is the standout build feature. Physical buttons let you send the robot home, pause it, or start a clean without opening the app. For households where multiple people use the robot — or where you just want to grab a quick action without unlocking your phone — this is a real day-to-day usability win. One of the few robots in the category that lets you skip the app for routine actions.
Cost to Own and the Long-Term Picture
The Cost to Own picture itself is reasonable on paper — the overall annual figure lands well inside the LOW tier (about $200/yr OEM internal). Two individual parts (filters and mop rollers) land in MODERATE on their own, but the overall annual rolls up to LOW. The catch is that side brush pricing is unknown and the proprietary solution bottle removes the generic discount option. The combination of "affordable on paper" and "parts availability is a real concern" creates an awkward long-term ownership picture.

Different robots for different homes. The Roborock Saros 20 has a slim 3.13-inch profile, the DuoDivide zero-tangle rollers for pet hair, and proven solid-state LiDAR navigation. The Eufy Omni S2 has stronger raw mop pressure (15N adjustable up to 50N), the top dock control panel, and an auto-refill water system. For pet households or tight apartments, the Roborock Saros 20 wins. For large open hardwood spaces, the Eufy Omni S2 has a case.
Eufy Omni S2 vs Dreame X60 Ultra
Same flagship tier. The Dreame X60 Ultra is 3.13" slim with dual AI cameras, real corner cleaning, and a mature Dreame ecosystem. The Eufy Omni S2 has the top dock control panel and the auto-refill water option. For most homes, the Dreame X60 Ultra is the smarter flagship pick. The Eufy Omni S2 holds its own only when large open hardwood spaces are the primary use case.
Eufy Omni S2 vs Eufy Omni S1 Pro
Same-family upgrade. The Eufy S2 adds more suction (30,000 Pa vs S1 Pro lower), the HydroJet 2.0 with adjustable pressure, the fragrance system, and the 12-in-1 station (vs S1 Pro's 10-in-1). The Eufy S1 Pro has no recall history. If you specifically want a Eufy and the recall concerns you, the S1 Pro is still available and worth comparing.
