3 Months of Real Use in My Home

I ran the Eufy Omni S1 side-by-side with my long-term S1 Pro for over three months. Same house, same dog, same daily cycles. I wanted to know what you actually give up when you save the money — because at first glance, the model names suggest a bigger gap than I found.

The truth: about 90% of the robot is identical. Same mop hardware. Same dirty water tank with continuous scraper. Same app. Same auto-empty. Same self-cleaning at the dock. What you give up by going with the S1 instead of the Pro: the ozone water generator, the top-mounted display, the side light indicator, and a step down on obstacle avoidance from 3D Matrix to AIC. What you save: a couple hundred dollars at sale prices, more at MSRP.

What's in the Box and First Setup

Setup ran about 20 minutes. The Eufy Clean app walked through Wi-Fi pairing (2.4 GHz only), and the robot did its first mapping pass automatically. The clean and dirty water tanks live in the dock — there's no onboard tank to fill. That keeps the robot itself trim and lets the dock handle the heavy lifting.

Cleaning Performance: What It Actually Picks Up

Hard Floor & Tile

This is where the Eufy S1 Omni earns its money. The rotating mop roller scrapes dirt off the floor and into a dirty water tank, instead of smearing it around like spinning-pad designs. On vinyl plank and sealed hardwood, it leaves a genuinely clean surface. On big-joint tile, it can't reach into the grout lines — same limitation as the Pro.

Carpet and Pet Hair

Half-inch mop lift kicks in when the carpet sensor fires. Boost mode ramps up suction. Fine on short pile; not a carpet deep-cleaner. If carpet is your priority, this isn't the robot.

Mopping

Identical mopping result to the Pro. The continuous clean-water rinse means the roller is wet with fresh water the whole time it's cleaning, not slowly going dirtier with each pass. That's the part the marketing doesn't fully explain, and it's the part that matters.

Edge and Corner Cleaning

Side brushes help, but corners and grout lines stay a weakness. The mop roller is wide, which is a plus for coverage, but it can't get into tight crevices.

Obstacle Avoidance

The AIC sensor is the meaningful step down from the Pro. It avoids most cables, recognizes Legos sometimes, and gets through a normal living room without trouble. With low items placed off-center — small remote, charging brick on the floor — the Pro's 3D Matrix system catches them more reliably. No photos of obstacles either, just icons in the app.

The Dock and Maintenance

Same dock design as the Eufy Pro. Cold-water wash on the mop roller, hot-air dry. The dirty water tank is what bothers most owners — it needs cleaning regularly or it starts to smell. A little Listerine in the tank cuts the smell. The robot also has to be powered ON when you remove the dirty water tank, because the mop roller needs to drop for service. That's not in the manual anywhere I could find — Eufy should document it.

The Eufy Clean App

Solid. Rooms, schedules, no-go zones, custom room names, mop wash frequency, water level. Lacks some of the deep customization you get with Roborock or Dreame apps for larger homes, but for an apartment or small home it's plenty.

What I'd Change About the Eufy S1 Omni

• Document the power-on-to-remove-tank quirk — Every new owner runs into it. A single line in the quick-start guide prevents a frustrating first impression.
• Redesign the dirty water tank geometry — Corners that trap residue are the root of the smell problem. A cleaner internal shape that doesn't let water and debris sit would cut the odor issue in half without needing the Listerine workaround.

Different platforms. The Dreame X60 brings hot-water mop wash, dual brush roller, better obstacle stack, and chassis lift over thresholds. If you want a flagship feature set, the X60 is the conversation. If you specifically want the rotating mop roller, the Eufy S1 is the answer..
