IS THE IROBOT ROOMBA VAC ROBOT VACUUM (Q011) WORTH IT?
✓ Why Dad Likes It
Nothing stood out enough to make my pros list
− What To Know
Bumper-only navigation — no mapping, no no-go zones
No mop — vacuum only
Charging dock only — no AutoEmpty, empty the dust bin by hand
BOTTOM LINE: Is the iRobot Roomba Vac Robot Vacuum (Q011) Just a Dad Approved?
It is NOT Just a Dad Approved. Same bumper-only navigation, no mapping, no no-go zones, and a bad app as the AutoEmpty version — minus the self-emptying convenience. Overall Dad Score: 3.0/10. Nothing on my pros list. Skip it and look at the Mova P10 Pro Gen 2, Roborock QRevo S-Pro, or Dreame D20 Pro instead.

Who Is It For?
Buyer Fit
Buy It If
You want the absolute simplest, most basic entry-level bumper-bot for a small, uncluttered space
Skip It If
You want any form of mapping or no-go zones
You have cables, toys, or clutter on the floor regularly
You want to spend money on a robot I don't think is worth it
The Roomba Vac Robot Vacuum (Q011) is the charging-dock-only sibling to the Q0520 AutoEmpty unit I already tested. Same robot underneath — same bumper-only navigation, same glitchy app — just without the self-emptying base.
Navigation and Cleaning Performance
It does an okay job on hard floors and carpet, but there's no mapping, no no-go zones, and no way to keep it out of a room besides a physical barrier. It'll run over cables and small toys and can get stuck. I wouldn't spend the money on this one.
Is It Worth It?
No. This is the charging-dock-only version of the same Essential robot I already tested with the AutoEmpty dock — same bumper-only navigation, no mapping, no no-go zones, bad app — and now without even the self-emptying convenience. Overall Dad Score: 3.0/10, tied for the lowest in this testing pool. Skip it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common Buyer Questions
Does this version have an auto-empty dock?+
No — this is the charging-only dock. It charges the robot but you empty the bin by hand.
Can I set no-go zones or keep it out of a room?+
Not through the app — no virtual walls, no magnetic strips. The only way to keep it away from something is a physical barrier.
Does it mop?+
No, this is the vacuum-only model.
Is this a good robot vacuum for a small apartment?+
It'll do an okay job in a smaller space without a lot of clutter on the floor. For anything bigger, the lack of mapping and no-go zones becomes a real problem.
