What’s in the Box and First Setup

Setup is straightforward and the app walks you through it. The robot itself is noticeably smaller than most combo units, which is the whole pitch — a thin profile that gets into tight spaces. The trade-off for that small body shows up everywhere else: a smaller battery, smaller mop pads, and a smaller vacuum area to work with.

Cleaning Performance: What It Actually Picks Up

Hard Floor & Tile

On hard floors the 415X does a respectable everyday job, and the slim chassis genuinely gets under furniture that stops bigger robots. It’s a good fit for daily light maintenance rather than deep cleaning.

Carpet and Pet Hair

Carpet pickup is average, and the pet-hair side is where it struggles. Despite the tangle-free brush claim, I still saw hair wrap during testing, and the small dustbin fills up quickly — once it’s full the robot keeps running without picking much up, and you won’t necessarily know.

Mopping Performance

Mop performance is just not that good. There’s no onboard water tank — the robot relies on the base station to wet the pads, and it washes them with cold water. I also noticed the mop pads keep falling off once in a while, which you shouldn’t have to babysit.

Edge and Corner

This is a bright spot. It cleans in corners and up against the wall very well, and the navigation is strong for a robot that doesn’t use a top-mounted spinning LiDAR.

Obstacle and Navigation

Navigation around the room is good. In the structured ad-claim test, though, it didn’t reliably dodge cords and small clutter, so I’d temper expectations on the obstacle-avoidance marketing.

The Dock and Maintenance

The AutoWash base station looks good and handles auto-empty plus pad washing and heat drying. The catch is the small dustbin and the small filter inside it, both of which fill fast on a home with any real debris or pet hair.

App Experience

The Roomba app is just okay. It’s getting better, but it isn’t as intuitive as the Roborock or Dreame apps, where more lives on one page. Here you bounce between a page for the dock, a page for the robot, and a page for the map, and there isn’t a lot of fine-tuning for your specific home. For a larger home it’s going to struggle.

What I'd Change About the Roomba Plus 415x

• Release first-party replacement parts alongside the robot — three months in, only third-party options exist for the side brush and mop pads
• Add an onboard water tank instead of relying solely on the dock to wet the pads
• Increase the dustbin and filter size so they don't fill up so quickly

Roomba Plus 415x vs The Field

This robot has potential, but to compete today it needs to land at a much lower price. Stack it against something like the Mova P10 Pro or a Roborock Q-series unit and those robots simply clean a little better, have more refined apps and interfaces, and — importantly — have parts you can actually buy. The 415X is a promising first step in a new lineup; it just isn’t the one to buy yet.
