✓ Why Dad Likes It

FloorDetect auto-switches the brush roll between hardwood and carpet.
No hair wrap on the roller — the self-cleaning PowerFins.
MultiFLEX wand bends under furniture and folds over to store.
Converts to a handheld with pet and crevice tools.
Very lightweight and easy to maneuver.
− What To Know
No blue Dirt-Reveal light.
Doesn’t stand on its own.
Hair wraps the cyclone filter instead of the roller.
BOTTOM LINE: Is the Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus Cordless Stick Vacuum (IZ387H) Just a Dad Approved?
It IS Just a Dad Approved. The PowerPro Flex Pet Plus is a good-cleaning, seriously lightweight Shark that auto-adjusts between hardwood and carpet and shrugs off roller hair-wrap. The honest catch: it’s the step-down without the blue Dirt-Reveal light, and it’s priced above what I’d pay at full list. Catch it on a deep sale and it’s a solid pick; if the dirt light matters to you, step up to the 382H / 376H. Just A Dad Approved — as a wait-for-a-deal buy.

Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus Cordless Stick Vacuum (IZ387H)
After three months of real messes across hardwood, carpet, and stairs, the Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus (IZ387H) proved itself a genuinely light, easy-to-handle cordless that cleans well and doesn’t tangle its roller. It’s not the top of Shark’s line — it skips the blue Dirt-Reveal light — and it’s the kind of vacuum I’d wait for a deal on. Here’s exactly how it held up.
What's in the Box and First Setup
In the box you get the vacuum, the MultiFLEX/pivot wand, the PowerFins power head, a yellow FurFins pet tool, an 8" crevice tool, the removable battery, a 6-foot charging cord, and the filters (a replaceable HEPA plus two washable foam filters). There’s no dock — you charge by plugging the 6-foot cord straight into the vacuum, and three lights show the charge level (all lit means fully charged).
Cleaning Performance: What It Actually Picks Up
Carpet and Hard Floor Performance
On both floors it did a good job. A big ground-coffee mess on carpet came up easily, and it stayed just as light and maneuverable on hardwood. The nice part is FloorDetect: on carpet it ramps up the brushroll (the light turns blue) and on hardwood it slows the roller (the light goes purple), switching seamlessly as you move between rooms — though the suction change itself wasn’t obvious to me.
Long Hair and Pet Hair
This is a strength. In a torture test with long and embedded hair, nothing wrapped the roller — the self-cleaning PowerFins and an internal hair-management comb kept it clear. The one catch showed up at cleanup: the hair had wrapped the cyclone filter instead, though there wasn’t much dirt built up around it. The yellow FurFins tool is there to pull hair off furniture.
Cat Litter Test
Cat litter was the one spot that needed a little extra. It didn’t scatter the litter around, but it left some behind on the first pass — a quick pull of the trigger for a boost pass picked up the rest. It cleans best pushing forward, and the trigger gives you max suction any time you want it.
Modes and How It Runs
Keep your expectations right here: there’s no bank of suction modes. It’s a push-button on/off, and the trigger gives you a momentary max-suction boost when you squeeze it. FloorDetect handles the brushroll-speed change between floors automatically, so day to day you’re not fiddling with settings — but if you want selectable power levels, this isn’t that vacuum.
Battery and Runtime
Shark advertises up to 50 minutes, measured at the hand vac in standard mode; I didn’t time my unit, so treat that as the headline number and expect less when the brushroll is working hard on carpet. FloorDetect helps stretch the battery by not over-driving the roller on hard floors. The battery is removable and charges on the 6-foot cord plugged into the vacuum.
Maintenance Reality
Emptying is a manual, point-and-drop job: release the canister, press the blue button, and everything drops out (there’s a little static cling, so blow it out now and then). The brush roll pops off with a button so you can wash it, and inside it there’s a comb for long-hair management. You get two reusable foam filters to wash and dry, plus a replaceable HEPA filter with an anti-allergen seal. One thing to remember from the hair test: check the cyclone filter, since that’s where hair tends to collect on this one.
Storage and Handling
At about 7.5 lb it’s light and easy to maneuver, and the wheel-to-handle length is about 42 inches. The MultiFLEX wand is the party trick — press the button and it bends so you can reach under furniture, or fold it over on itself to store. The wand also removes so the power head sits on the floor for stair jobs. The one habit to learn: it doesn’t stand on its own, so you fold it over or lean it somewhere.
What I'd Change About the Shark PowerPro IZ387H
Add the blue Dirt-Reveal light — that’s the real reason to consider the step-up model.
Make the bin a little bigger.
A way to stand it up on its own would help.
Shark PowerPro IZ387H vs the Competition
Shark PowerPro IZ387H vs Shark PowerPro Flex with Dirt-Reveal (382H / 376H)
Same lightweight, auto-adjusting Shark experience, but the step-up models add the blue Dirt-Reveal light that shows you hidden dust as you clean. If that light matters to you, pay up for the 382H / 376H. If it doesn’t, this one does the core cleaning just as well.
Shark PowerPro IZ387H vs a Heavier Full-size Cordless Vacuum
This Shark trades outright suction power and a bigger bin for weight and easy handling. If you want the lightest thing that still cleans real messes and auto-adjusts between floors, it’s a strong pick; if you want maximum power and long runtime, look at a heavier flagship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common Buyer Questions
What’s the difference between the IZ387H and the 382H / 376H?+
The big one is the light. The step-up 382H / 376H models have Shark’s blue Dirt-Reveal light that shows hidden dust as you clean; this IZ387H skips it. Otherwise you get the same lightweight, FloorDetect-equipped Shark. If the dirt light matters to you, go up a model; if not, this one cleans just as well.
Does the roller tangle with long hair and pet hair?+
No — that’s one of its best traits. In a torture test with long, embedded hair, nothing wrapped the roller, thanks to the self-cleaning PowerFins and an internal comb. One thing to know: the hair tended to collect on the cyclone filter instead, so check that when you clean it.
Does it have suction modes?+
Not in the usual sense. There’s no bank of power levels — it’s push-button on/off, and squeezing the trigger gives you a momentary max-suction boost. FloorDetect changes the brushroll speed between hardwood and carpet for you automatically.
How long does the battery last?+
Shark advertises up to 50 minutes, measured at the hand vac in standard mode. I didn’t time my unit, so expect less when the brushroll is working hard on carpet. FloorDetect helps stretch it by not over-driving the roller on hard floors, and the battery is removable so you can swap in a charged one.
Does it stand up on its own?+
No. It doesn’t free-stand — you fold the MultiFLEX wand over on itself to store it, or lean it somewhere. That fold-over is also how you get it under furniture. It’s a habit you learn on day one.
